- Halls High School - Knoxville
Chris Dotson / Flickr The halls of Halls (Get it? Womp Womp) are rumored to be haunted by a young woman who was murdered by her boyfriend, thrown down the stairs in the heat of an argument. She bled to death at the bottom. Her ghost is said to return to avenge her death from time to time, wandering the halls looking for the man who did her wrong.
- Rotherwood Mansion - Kingsport
M Fletcher / Flickr The Rotherwood mansion has a sad story, when young inhabitant Rowena found her life shaken to the core. When her fiance died on the afternoon of their wedding, her life was forever changed. It was after the death of her daughter a few years later that she committed suicide and chained herself to the mansion forever, coming to be known as the “Woman in White.” She is said to wander the halls, wailing from the heartbreak that supersedes death.
- Ryman Auditorium - Nashville
Stacey Kizer Obviously the Mother Church has a couple of haunts in the halls. There are several different eyewitnesses that say Hank Williams, Sr. haunts backstage, showing up as a mist on stage every so often. Others say “The Gray Man” sits in the balcony during rehearsals, but never during actual shows. How interesting…there’s sure to be quite the story to that one, forever lost to history.
- Sensabaugh Tunnel - Kingsport

It is said you can hear the screams of his family and the wailing of a baby if you walk by late at night. There are rumored murders in the tunnel in recent years, but of course there are. Come on. - The Lake at Overton Park - Memphis
Bunny Jager / Flickr The famed woman in blue haunts Overton Park. She is seen calling for help in a frothy blue dress before disappearing. Supposedly, a young woman was killed by the lake in the 60’s, but the story has yet to be given credit.
- The Old Stone House - Alcoa
WallsoftheCity Years ago, an old man and his wife believed that if they continued to build on their stone home that they would beat death and live for all eternity. Supposedly, their ghosts continue to clink and clank around the old stone house, forever building by candlelight.
- Bell Witch Cave - Adams
Cameron Daigle / Flickr Famously known as one of the most prolific nineteenth century ghost stories in America, the Bell Witch was said to murder John Bell and ravage his family with poltergeist-like hauntings for years. The terror was so intense that apparently President Andrew Jackson even swore to stay away from the Bell home overnight.

Brent Moore / Flickr The prison operated until 1992, and served as the home of Old Sparky, giving men on death row a place to breathe their last. Although the prison is now closed off and guarded at the security gate, it’s still a terrifying place to see from the road right outside the city of Nashville. Who knows what ghosts haunt the halls, but some say they can hear the screams of the men when the night grows late. Cue all the shivers…
