Recently, we discovered the healthiest counties in Nevada via County Health Rankings & Roadmaps. Some were a bit surprising, while others weren’t surprising at all. Nevada also has a few unhealthy counties, as you’ll see below.
Keep in mind, these statistics are based on actual (2015) reports. Many people get sick, but are too stubborn (like myself) to see a doctor. Also, there are many people who can’t afford healthcare. This keeps them from seeing a doctor when they’re ill. So, keep this in mind while reviewing the following statistics.
Now, let’s take a look at the 10 unhealthiest counties in Nevada.
- Nye County
flickr/Ken Lund In Nye County, an average of 12,000 residents die before reaching the age of 75. Smokers make up approximately 26% of the population, while 29% of the population suffer from adult obesity. Approximately 20% of the population experiences poor of fair health, and 25% are uninsured. The county seat for Nye County is Tonopah, home of the famous Clown Motel. It’s also home to Beatty, Gabbs and Pahrump.
- Mineral County
flickr/Ken Lund An average of 13,000 residents of Mineral County die before reaching the age of 75, and 27% of the population experiences adult obesity. Poor or fair health is experienced by 19% of the population, and 23% are uninsured. Mineral County’s county seat is Hawthorne, and it also encompasses Luning, Mina, Aurora, Schurz and Walker Lake.
- White Pine County

Unfortunately, 20% of White Pine County’s population is uninsured. The county seat of White Pine County is Ely. It’s also home to Baker, Cherry Creek, McGill, etc.
- Lander County

Lander County has no drinking water violations, and 20% of its population is uninsured. Lander County’s county seat is Battle Mountain, and it’s also home to Austin, Kingston, Pittsburg, Rixie and Galena.
- Humboldt County

Adult smoking may be at 22%, and adult obesity may be at 26%, but only 15% of Humboldt County’s population experiences poor or fair health. Drinking water violations are at 38%, so this county doesn’t have the cleanest water. Humboldt County is the oldest county in Nevada and the county seat is Winnemucca, which is the only incorporated city in the county.
- Lyon County

Also, adult obesity affects 28% of the population and adult smoking affects 25%. The county seat for Lyon County is Yerington, and it also includes several communities such as Fernley, Dayton and Cambridge.
- Churchill County

Adult obesity is high at 32%, as well as adult smoking at 24%, but only 14% of the population experiences poor or fair health. Churchill County’s county seat is Fallon, and it’s also home to Middlegate, Kingston and Eastgate.
