Connecticut has a bit of a reputation for being full of haunts and, like many New England states, its long history comes with plenty of folklore. But if you’re looking to spot a ghost, these locations are your best bet. Check them out:
- New London Ledge Light

Take the tour and keep your eyes peeled for the ghost of Ernie. He threw himself into the sea after discovering his wife was unfaithful, but his body was never found. Apparently, he is still performing his keeper duties from the great beyond.
- Pachaug State Forest

The largest state forest in the state, this place is also a burial ground. When the state purchased the land, they never removed the remnants of the colonial towns, including the graves. An entire history is hidden just beneath the surface. And whatever you do, don’t touch the lilac bushes.
- Hell Hollow Road

This road actually runs through the forest and is said to be one of the most haunted roads in the state. Keep an eye out for the ghostly figure who stands in the grass. And listen for the screams.
- Pequabuck Tunnel

This 4,000-foot-long tunnel was built through a hill, and was prone to bad luck. Reports of two figures waiting beside the entrance have been reported, but nobody knows who they are!
- Gunntown Cemetery

The Warrens agree that this place is definitely haunted. From small children laughing, to a man leading his horse across the grounds with a lantern, this place is creepy. And a lot of researchers have left here with electronic voice recordings, which means it’s real.
- Sterling Opera House

Houdini performed here once, on a stage built above a jail that once housed serial killers. Now under renovation, this opera house is likely the strangest in the country. And the most terrifying.
- Mansfield Training School

Now known as the Depot Campus at UConn, this building was formerly a mental hospital. The dorm remains untouched as a historical building, but rumors of whispers, orbs, and unexplained shadows haunt this place. The ghosts of former patients are likely not far.
- Seaside Sanitorium

This is Connecticut’s own Shutter Island, from the rumors to the seaside location. It’s abandoned state makes it one of the eeriest locations around, and many rumors of ghosts persist despite its clean history. Definitely worth checking to see if the rumors are true!

This cartridge factory suffered from many untimely deaths. A couple fell into a vat of molten metal, and then an explosion killed seven and wounded an additional eighty. Night visitors report the ghosts of men still at work.

This is definitely one of the most infamous places to spot a ghost in Connecticut. Host to the White Lady, careful driving through here. Her favorite prank is spooking drivers and causing accidents.
- Rails to the Darkside

Every October, the Connecticut Trolley Museum offers a truly haunting experience to willing passengers. A ride out to the old cemetery in the woods. Another story of displaced remains in Connecticut, this ride is fun, but chilling.
