So many great things happened in New Jersey this year, from a police officer in Lindenwold surprising a homeless man with new boots to twin girls in Wayne with special needs rescuing a special needs pup! There is plenty to look back on and be happy about, but there are also some strange news stories that will make you shake your head. Here are some of the most insane things that happened in New Jersey in 2015.

1.New Jersey woman sued for writing “bum” and “loser” on alimony checks.

Flickr/Thomas Hawk Her ex-husband is suing for emotional distress after she continually “harassed” him by writing words like “bum” in the memo line. He claims the stress has exacerbated his heart condition.

  1. Man named “Bacon” attacks person for eating his sausage.

Flickr/CookBookman17 A Madison man named Thomas Bacon allegedly attacked someone in his home for eating the last piece of sausage. While that is a major offense, I’m not sure it is worthy of an assault.

  1. South Jersey landfill transformed into power station.

Flickr/Martin Nikolaj Bech One man’s trash is another man’s electricity. A landfill near Mount Holly got a new addition - 41,720 solar panels which will power around 2000 New Jersey homes.

  1. Man busted for fraud after attempting to flush millions of dollars in fake poker chips down the toilet.

Flickr/Doug Kerr He was in Atlantic City for a poker tournament and began to worry that he would get caught using fake poker chips. Instead of simply not using them, he tried to flush the chips down the toilet, clogging the drain at Harrah’s which led to him getting busted.

  1. Deer vandalizes Millburn store.

Flickr/Stuart Oikawa A buck smashed through the window of a Millburn clothing store, destroying product and fixtures. The deer then fled the scene and has not been apprehended. The incident occurred during mating season and the buck is not considered a threat.

  1. Guinness World Record time for running in full gear broken by Ridgewood firefighter.

Flickr/Starmanseries He completed the run wearing over 25 pounds of gear in 75-degree weather. Congratulations to Lt. Brendan Corcoran on beating the record by over a minute.

  1. Attorneys charged with assault at Bergen County Courthouse.

  1. Only horse ever penalized in college football game passes away.

Flickr/Rodrigo Bernal Rutgers mascot, Lord Nelson, was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct in a 1994 game when he broke free and ran through Giant’s Stadium. He passed away this year at 42.

  1. Crocodile found during drug raid.

  1. Rare tortoise twins born at Garden State Tortoise.

  1. Concrete ship gets its own craft beer.

Flickr/Neil DeMaster Cape May’s own sunken concrete ship now has its own imperial stout. Created by the Cape May Brewing Company, the “Concrete Ship,” inspired by S.S. Atlantus has hints of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt.
