We all know that Montana’s most famous attractions like Glacier National Park, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and the city of Missoula are worth checking out. But the Treasure State is also full of slightly more hidden gems that locals and tourists alike will enjoy.

Give one of these places a visit this summer if you can. Better yet, take a friend from out of state.

  1. Pompey’s Pillar

  1. Big Timber

Jasperdo / Flickr Beautiful Big Timber is located in Sweet Grass County, bordered by the Yellowstone and Boulder Rivers. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

  1. Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness

Troy Smith / Flickr If you can’t make it up to Glacier, the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness near Red Lodge is a good substitute, offering stunning scenery, beautiful hikes and perfect places to camp.

  1. St. Ignatius Mission

  1. Our Lady of the Rockies

  1. Quake Lake

  1. Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area

  1. Wild Horse Island State Park

  1. Lewistown
