Vermont may have more breweries per capita than any other state, but have you ever wondered how many people overindulge? We set out to rank all counties in Vermont to see who drinks the most alcohol.
We looked at County Health Rankings & Roadmaps to determine the ranking of the counties which had the highest percentage of individuals participating in either binge drinking or heavy drinking. To break the ties in these rankings, we then looked at Find The Home to see which of these counties have the highest bars per capita (bars per 10,000 residents).
- Caledonia County
Flickr/Yelp.com 15% percent of adults reported binge or heavy drinking with an average of 2.57 bars per capita (10K people). On a per capita basis, Caledonia County has around 1/2 as many bars as Vermont and 36% fewer than average for the United States.
- Bennington County
Flickr/Eric Diggers 17% percent of adults reported binge or heavy drinking with an average of 6.51 bars per capita (10K people). On a per capita basis, Bennington County has 22% more bars than average for Vermont and 62% more than the United States as a whole.
- Rutland County
Flickr/glennharper 18% percent of adults reported binge or heavy drinking with an average of 9.14 bars per capita (10K people). On a per capita basis, Rutland County has 72% more bars than average for Vermont and 2.3 times as many compared to the United States as a whole.
- Orleans County
