You can take a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon here. It’s about an hour’s drive from Sacramento, so really take your time if you make it out this way.

In addition to the lovely flowers and cute little bees like this one, there are also 300 year old oak trees to relax under in the shade.

The farm is owned by the Deavers, and when Jeanne Deaver met her husband Ken, she retired from her banking world in the big city and joined Ken here in Amador County in the Shenandoah Valley where she promptly started her own daylily growing business, Amador Flower Farm.

She opened the farm in 1996, and while she does sell daylillies and gardening supplies for a profit, she charges no admission fee.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by with their family and friends and walk through the gardens and enjoy the local wildlife.

California’s previous drought didn’t faze the farm. Fortunately, daylilies are a drought tolerant plant and as the nursery industry in the west adjusts to drier conditions, Jeanne’s daylily farm has been able to help its customers convert their water hungry landscapes to more water-wise gardens. The nursery is also focusing on succulents with many new varieties being added this year.

All in all, this farm going experience is like nothing else and something all nature lovers should go check out at least once!
