Kentucky is full of surprises and hidden gems, most of which may be a little quirky, but charm you nonetheless. Discovering these places throughout our state is exciting and fascinating and every once in awhile you come across one that is truly unique and surprises you in the best ways possible. In the small town of Danville, you’ll find a museum that you may not have heard of, but is not only award-winning, but definitely worth a visit. The Great American Dollhouse Museum is an incredible museum hiding in Kentucky that may be a little strange, but it is utterly fascinating.

Located in a historic building in Danville, 45 minutes south of Lexington, The Great American Dollhouse Museum is one of the most unique - and fascinating - attractions in Kentucky.

TripAdvisor/Porthos7 The 6,000 square foot building was built in 1939 and perfectly houses the treasures inside. Our country’s history comes to life in miniature form and the museum is an amazingly intriguing way to experience it.

Inside the museum you’ll find three distinct sections that each have their own purpose, but also intertwine perfectly.

Yelp/Amandalin R. The first section is a timeline of the United States that “winds its way through history from Native American, Colonial, Old West, Southwest and Victorian eras through the decades of the 20th century, ending in a modern scene that includes a hot tub, cell phones, and an exhausted babysitter.” And all of these are represented by enchanting dollhouses and miniature displays.

The next section depicts a town, circa 1910, and shows in detail what life was like during that time period.

Yelp/Joshua H. With historically-dressed residents and detailed neighborhoods, you’ll feel as if you’ve traveled back in time and are walking among the townspeople.

You’ll be both overwhelmed and impressed by the detail and design of the displays.

TripAdvisor/Erin W The third section is the most imaginative with a heavily forested fantasy land with fairies, elves, witches, trolls and a walk-in dragon cave. It’s a fun experience for all ages.

This award-winning museum is a must-see destination in Kentucky.

An extensive amount of time, talent and passion has gone into creating this unique space and while it may be just a little strange, you’ll be fascinated by the astonishingly accurate depiction of our country’s past.
