Flickr/USFWS Mountain-Prairie The Shoshone were the first to inhabit the area back in 1300. “Seedskadee” is a Shoshone word meaning “river of the prairie hen.” Explorers arrived in 1811 and it became a crossroads for the Oregon and Mormon Trails.
