If you’re looking to take an adventure and spend the day out on the water fishing in New York, there are plenty of gorgeous lakes and rivers that you can take advantage of in our Upstate regions. But out on Long Island where you’re surrounded by the fresh salty air and amazingly blue water, you can experience a fishing town that almost seems as though it’s frozen in time!

A favorite place to visit out on the island, the village of Greenport is one of our most charming locations within New York.

Stephen S./Yelp Green port is well-known for allowing visitors to both enjoy the advantages of having small town charm all while experiencing what it’s like to be in an historic fishing village! As of 2010, the village located out in Suffolk County only had a population of 2,197 residents.

Not much has changed since the town was first settled in 1682!

steveslj/TripAdvisor Pictured above you can see one of the many historic restaurants and structures that still stands in the village today, Claudio’s Restaurant! If this name sounds familiar to you at all, it’s most likely because Claudio’s has three waterfront restaurants in Greenport! All throughout the village you can find a great deal of structures that can be found on the National Register of Historic Places.

The family owned restaurants have long been favorite places for locals and out-of-town visitors to dine at.

Claudio’s Restaurant/Yelp Anyone up for some Mermaid Cocktails? While the town was once thrived off of an even larger fishing industry and things have died down quite a bit, Greenport still remains true to its roots.

Even if you’re not interested in fishing, Greenport offers plenty of other ways for visitors to get out on the water and enjoy the gorgeous scenery!

Brian O/TripAdvisor Celebrating nearly 20 years of going green, GLORY is an eco-friendly boat that’s actually solar powered. Wow! The vessel has been giving tours out on the Peconic Bay since 1999 and may just be one of the most charming boats you ever step foot on. Running until Columbus Day, GLORY gives roughly 45-minute boat tours on Saturdays and Sundays during their current season.

Keep exploring around town and you’ll discover plenty of historic buildings that have a story to tell.
