Not everyone believes in ghosts, but there is no denying some houses or buildings just give you the downright creeps. Maybe it’s the feeling you get when passing through, or just a decayed sense of history gone astray. Some of these might be familiar, while some are just seen in passing. Yet, these fifteen houses seem to hold some mystery and some haunts.

  1. Biltmore Estate

Flickr / Bryan Scott The Biltmore Estate is known to be haunted by former owners, George and Edith Vanderbilt. Strange occurrences have been reported throughout the estate but most notably in the library and pool room.

  1. Haunted farmhouse in Yadkinville

Flickr / Meg Lauber The photographer of this picture says her father rented out the farm house for a few years. It’s located behind a veterinary clinic where he practiced. They always felt strange when entering the house and reported weird occurrences happened from time to time.

  1. Abandoned and decayed

Flickr / Jay Joslin There are few details on this abandoned house outside of Asheville. The photographer did a great job of setting the haunted mood.

  1. ‘Shack’

Flickr / Keith I wouldn’t want to stumble upon this scary shack in the woods.

  1. ‘The House Keeper’

Flickr / Taylor S I wonder what kind of coastal secrets and scares lay hidden in this Cape Lookout house.

  1. The full thing

Flickr / Taylor S This super creepy house, seen in the above picture, takes on a whole other level of haunted when we see the full exterior.

  1. ‘Front Porch’

Flickr / Taylor S The photographer calls this the ‘swamp cabin’ in Cape Lookout.

  1. ‘Overgrown’

Flickr / cj Speight Stonewall Jackson Training School in Concord was once home to horrible things. Boys were terribly mistreated and no one knows what exactly happened while the school was still open. It’s said to be haunted, but either way, there is something here.

  1. ‘Abandoned Antebellum’

Flickr / Zach Frailey This old southern plantation is surely decrepit and possibly haunted.

  1. ‘House on Joseph Street’

Flickr / Gerry Dincher This creepy cabin is tucked deep inside the woods in Hope Mills.

  1. Haunted drama

Flickr / Zach Frailey While not a ‘house house’ this abandoned slaughter house sure gives me the creeps.
