No one likes to be sick. But luckily, we in West Virginia have several first-rate hospitals to care for us.

According to a HealthGrove, a website that compares hospitals, here are the top ten hospitals in the state. The ratings are based on U.S. News ratings, Medicare performance ratings, death rates from pneumonia and heart attack and other factors.

(Note: these are the top 10, but six of the hospitals received the same score of 88 out of 100).

St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington

St. Mary’s Medical Center St. Mary’s, the largest medical facility in the Tri-State region, was given an 88 by HealthGrove. The hospital is also Cabell County’s largest private employer.

Fairmont Regional Medical Center

Fairmont Regional Medical Center/Facebook This hospital in Fairmont got an 88 rating. It was formerly known as Fairmont General Hospital and was founded in 1939.

Mon General Hospital

Mon General Hospital/Facebook Also received an 88 on the HealthGrove ratings. Mon General is a 189-bed facility in Morgantown that began in 1977.

Logan Regional Medical Center

Logan Regional Medical Center/Facebook Logan Regional Medical Center got at 88 on the HealthGrove rating list, too. The hospital began in 1926.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital received a rating of 86 on HealthGrove. The hospital is a 70-bed hospital serving the area of Lewis, Gilmer, Braxton, Upshur, and Harrison counties.

Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant

Pleasant Valley Hospital/Facebook This Point Pleasant hospital has 201 beds and is a not-for-profit facility. It got an 88 on the HealthGrove ratings.

West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown and the Eastern Panhandle.

Donald West/Flickr Rated 91 on the Health Grove website. West Virginia University Hospitals include Ruby Memorial Hospital, WVU Children’s Hospital, and Chestnut Ridge Center in Morgantown, along with City Hospital in Martinsburg and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.

United Hospital Center

United Hospital Center/Facebook The hospital, with 292 private rooms and 24 observation rooms, is the result of a merger between St. Mary’s and Union Protestant hospitals. It got an 88 on the ratings scale, too.

Charleston Area Medical Center

CAMC/Facebook Received a 90 rating from HealthGrove. Hospitals include CAMC General Hospital, CAMC Memorial Hospital, CAMC Teays Valley Hospital and CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital.

Princeton Community Hospital

Princeton Community Hospital This hospital in Southern West Virginia has 267 beds, 160 doctors and 1,097 employees. it got a 87.
