Rain is pretty much the first thing that comes to mind when people think about Washington, and although the Eastern side of our state doesn’t see nearly as much, we all experience precipitation at some point throughout the year. So, on our next rainy day here in the Northwest, be sure to pull up your Northface or Columbia hood, hop in your car and head out to enjoy any of these indoor activities:

  1. Anyone up for some Go-Kart Racing?

K1 Speed
There are quite a few indoor places in Washington where you can challenge your friends to a race, like FastKart Speedway in Spokane, Traxx Indoor in Mukilteo, K1 Speed in the Seattle area, etc.

  1. Not up for a race? How about just sitting and drinking a warm cup of coffee or cocoa at your local café?

Flickr / kdavidclark This may seem kind of cliché, but there’s nothing like warming up in a coffee shop with your hands wrapped around a magnificent cup of espresso. While you sit and enjoy your hot beverage, you can lose yourself in a novel, newspaper, or magazine, solve a puzzle, draw or write in a sketchbook, or even browse on the (usually free) WiFi on your phone/iPad.

  1. Or would you rather try Hot Yoga?

It’s beyond rejuvenating. In addition to increasing the temp, you can boost your flexibility!

  1. Why not take a painting or cooking class?

Flickr / tamuc You may be surprised by your natural abilities, and the best part of it all is that you get to enjoy your masterpiece when it’s done!

  1. You could spend your day at the arcade, casino, or bingo hall!

Double your rainy day fund and you could even treat yourself to a warm burger afterwards! Plus, all three activities are widely available just about anywhere you go in the state.

  1. Have you been to the Bad Art Museum in Seattle?

Flickr / dancentury The glittery Elvis portrait here in Cafe Racer of the U-District is simply inspiring. Really, any museum around our state can make for a fascinating day trip!

  1. Indoor rock climbing is pretty thrilling!

Flickr / narisa If it’s pouring too hard to go on a hike but you’d still like to get active, you can break a sweat at indoor rock climbing gyms like the Seattle Bouldering Project, Wild Walls Gym in Spokane, or even at REI in Seattle as pictured! Be sure to research online for your nearest options.

  1. Fancy a wine tasting?

Flickr / doniree There are hundreds of amazing tasting rooms in Washington where you can sip on exquisite selections! A few places worth a try include Chateau St. Michelle in Woodinville, El Corazon in Walla Walla, Nectar Tasting Room in Spokane, etc.

  1. Don’t you think you deserve a spa day?

Flickr / dennniswong There’s no better day than any to splurge on a massage or spa than when it’s all dark and rainy out. Just imagine… sitting back in a luxurious hot bath and feeling all of your stress melt away.

  1. And you can ALWAYS stay at home curled up with a warm blanket & watch a new movie on Netflix. Bonus points if it’s based in our beautiful state!
