After completing his first day of high school, Carl Hammond returned home and declared to his mother that he needed no more education. He procured a job as an apprentice in a candy factory, and the rest, as we now know, is history.

He developed his own recipes, created original candies, and even acted as salesman, front of the house, and office manager in the early days.
