Rumors and speculation surround an unauthorized pet cemetery near Boulder City. Some say it’s the most haunted pet cemetery on earth. Others claim there are Mafia victims secretly buried there.
Even the establishing date of this mysterious and remote spot is awash in disagreement. Some believe the pet cemetery in the middle of the desert was illegally established in the 1930s. Others attribute its creation to a 1950s-era Boulder City veterinarian named Marwood Doud.
One thing, however, is certain. The elaborate and sometimes dilapidated grave markings reveal at least 60 years worth of beloved cats, dogs and other pets (possibly some humans) buried in this prohibited and supposedly haunted pet cemetery.
This unofficial pet cemetery is known as the El Dorado Valley Pet Cemetery, the Marwood Doud Cemetery or simply the Boulder City Pet Cemetery.

The pet cemetery’s most famous resident is the pup of film star Rin Tin Tin.

Originally federally-owned land, it was purchased by Boulder City in 1995 and designated as a Desert Tortoise Habitat.

That means the interment of remains is prohibited on the land.

As it turns out, the land is located in a flash flood zone, and many animal remains have washed up over the years.
Flickr / Miss Shari Since the cemetery has been rumored to contain some who were whacked by mobsters, website Digital Dying writes, “This means that the bones of mobsters have also been unearthed and that means that somewhere circling in the dark desert night is a ghoulish murderous mongrel mobster dog creature, ravenous for revenge, against the owner who foolishly buried it on unstable ground, against the mob boss who brutally took its life.” Digital Dying named this pet cemetery the most haunted pet cemetery on earth. By the way, the animal remains (no proof of human that we’re aware of) are often the prey of hungry coyotes prowling the area.
Other paranormal stories about this haunted pet cemetery aren’t quite as frightening.
