We may not be able to explain why, but there’s something magical about carousels. They always draw us in no matter what our age. When taking a trip to our Big Apple, it’s natural for visitors to instantaneously feel overwhelmed by all of the attractions that there are to see. Being overwhelmed by the long list of things you’d like to squeeze into your visit, means that often some of our best attractions go unnoticed and easily fall under your radar.
Ready to take a ride on an aquatic carousel like no other? This one New York attraction is like nothing you’ve ever experienced:
Surrounded by the beautiful flowers of the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Woodland Gardens in The Battery Conservancy, the Seaglass Carousel is quite eye-catching.
K M/Flickr Opening up just last August, the mesmerizing attraction has quickly become quite popular.
The 2,575 square-foot pavilion was modeled to resemble a nautilus, outwardly carrying out the overall aquatic theme.
Edward Blake/Flickr A way for us to dedicate a piece of our city to our aquatic history, the theme was decided upon to remind visitors of where the original New York Aquarium once was. Now found along the Coney Island Boardwalk, the original aquarium was located in Battery Park not too far from where the carousel is located.
An attraction that has been in the making for quite some time, the carousel was designed to solve the problem of having a lack of light in the southern end of the park.
K M/Flickr Just look at the beautiful glow!
While you might be able to walk by this carousel during the day without realizing what it is, at night the glowing attraction is impossible to miss.
Shiu Lei W./Yelp Internally-illuminated rides, projections and light displays, it’s hard not to find yourself mesmerized with this pavilion.
When you’re closer to the pavilion, you’ll be able to see the word “Seaglass” written in bubbles across the window.

K M/Flickr Once you’re inside you’ll also be able to see another feature of the pavilion, it’s beautiful spiraling skylight at the top.
For $5 you can take the unforgettable 3 1/2 minute ride, where sadly you’ll have to turn in these awesome tokens once you get on the ride.
Amy N./Yelp Sure, most rides will give you the average paper ticket for you to hold onto, but these unique tokens continue to carry out the fun seaglass theme.
This carousel isn’t like your average ride. Instead of revolving around a center pole, the ride is made up of four turntables.
Jennifer D./Yelp The four turntables will spin you around during your ride, while the individual fiberglass fish will also spin and bob you around!
30 internally-illuminated fish will greet you once you step inside the spiraling building, making it hard to choose which one you’ll want to ride!

Day or night, the fish light up and change colors right before your eyes!
James W./Yelp There is a variety of angelfish, clown fish, and wrasses.
Every fish on the carousel has enough room for one adult plus a child on their lap.
lakwatsera2014/TripAdvisor During the ride, you’ll hear aquatic sounds that make the ride even more peaceful than you could’ve imagined.
Don’t write this off as just a children’s ride though! Many of our residents love to come here for romantic dates or to spend just a few peaceful minutes in the park.
Shachi B./Yelp
Open 7 days a week from 10AM - 10PM, be sure to check out their Facebook before visiting to double check that they are open.
Shiu Lei W./Yelp The carousel is open “weather permitting”, so it’s always best to double check that they’re open! For any other questions about this magnificent carousel, you can check out their website right here.
