Step aside, Napa Valley. There’s a new sheriff in town. To locals, it is well-known that Missouri is home to a premiere wine country, but this one town in Missouri is sure to put us on the map for out of town travelers. Saint Genevieve is not only the oldest town in Missouri, but it’s also home to many of the best wineries in the state.

To kick things off, let’s begin at Sainte Genevieve Winery.

Sainte Genevieve Winery/Facebook This family-owned winery first opened their doors in 1983. They’re most notably known for their delicious sweet wines such as Cranberry, Elderberry and Christmas Plum. It’s located right in the heart of downtown Ste. Genevieve, so be sure to explore the area for a bite to eat after.

Address: 245 Merchant St. Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670

Not too far from Sainte Genevieve Winery, you’ll find Watertower Winery.

Watertower Winery/Yelp

Watertower Winery/Facebook Just like the name states, this winery is located right next to the Ste. Genevieve water tower. Their tasting room is located in a rustic, 70-year old barn and they even named one of their wines after it. Barn Red Wine Sweet is a red wine with a bit of a spicy finish. If you’re really in the mood for a sweet wine, go for their refreshing sangria.

Address: 11373 State Rte M. Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670

Next up, we have Crown Valley Winery.

Crown Valley Winery/Facebook

Banny9949/TripAdvisor Crown Valley is one of the more scenic wineries in Ste. Genevieve. It sits on top of rolling hills with stunning views of miles and miles of vineyards. Guests can choose to go for a wine tasting or for a tour of the entire winery which includes the wine. Both options come with a souvenir wine glass at the end.

Address:

23589 State Rte WW Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670

Less than 3 miles east of Crown Valley, you’ll find Chaumette Vineyards.

Chaumette Vineyards and Winery/Yelp

Chaumette Vineyards & Winery/Facebook Chaumette is the perfect mix of award-winning wine and fine dining on a breathtaking property. Additionally, you can rent a villa for an overnight stay. It’ll almost feel like you’re in Italy, except that Missouri is so much better.

Address: 24345 State Rte WW Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670

Ste. Genevieve even has a cave vineyard.

Cave Vineyard/website

Derek L./Yelp Cave Vineyard features rows and rows of grape vineyards within walking distance of an old cave. After guests tour the vineyards and have a wine tasting in the tasting room, they can walk over to the cave and sit inside to enjoy a glass or bottle of their favorite wine.

Address: 21124 Cave Rd. Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670

With 7 wineries in town and a population of 4, 410, I’d say the ratio of wine to human in Ste. Genevieve is just about right.
