When it comes to unique transformations of buildings that go from one purpose to another, this restaurant in Minot, North Dakota has many others beat. It was originally a factory that produced tractors and threshers and has been renovated to be a place where you can get amazing food, most notably great pizza. The history of where it started out and where it is today is fascinating and if you haven’t been there yet, then you need to go as soon as possible, and here’s why:

In 1919, this building was owned and operated by the Altman & Taylor Tractor Company.

Elizabeth G/Yelp The purpose of the building was to construct tractors and threshers used by the local farmers around Minot. They used a starving rooster as their logo because their machines were supposed to be of such high quality, no grain was ever lost to the ground during harvest or processing - leaving the roosters with nothing to eat. Today, The Starving Rooster restaurant has adopted that mascot as their own, but you certainly won’t be left starving here.

Not just the building was reused - the restaurant used as much of the original materials in the interior as well.

The Starving Rooster/Facebook Everything from tables and chairs to the decorations are mostly from the original factory parts. It gives the restaurant a unique, industrial-like feel while paying respect to the history of the building.

Beyond the unique setting, the food is what makes it the best.

The Starving Rooster/Facebook The Starving Rooster is known for serving everything from delicious sandwiches to great tacos and quesadillas. Their brunch options are amazing, too. Any time of the day you eat here, you’ll enjoy it.

Most importantly, their pizza is absolutely to die for.

Jessica L/Tripadvisor If that image doesn’t make you drool then I don’t know what will. When it comes to pizza, this place has it perfected. There’s a good reason they’re known for it, and that is because it’s some of the best pizza you’ll ever have in your life.

You have a choice between flatbread pizza or pizza baked in their huge brick oven.

Jeff M/Yelp This place doesn’t cut corners when it comes to the quality of their food. No matter what you decide on having, you can taste the passion that goes into this restaurant, from the repurposed materials that make up the interior to the freshest ingredients that are skillfully combined in their food.

I love historic buildings that have been transformed into something that can still be used today. It’s much better than letting the space and materials go to waste, and also keeps the history of the place alive. North Dakota has some very old restaurants that have been eateries since they were built, including the state’s oldest restaurant. Have you been to either of these?
