You’ve probably heard that Utah is number one at some of these things…but a few might surprise you!

  1. Darkest Skies

DennyMont/flickr Utah’s Natural Bridges National Monument was the first location in the world to receive Dark Sky Status from the International Dark Sky Association in 2007. What does that mean? It’s one of the best places in the world to view stars at night—without the interruption of artificial light.

  1. Charitable Giving

Utah Food Bank/Facebook Utah ranks first in the nation for charitable donations, with 71 percent of Utahns reporting that they donate to charity each year.

  1. Best Place to Visit

Joel/flickr Fodor’s Travel ranked Utah the number one place to visit in the entire world for 2016.

  1. Best Snow on Earth

Snowbird/Facebook This claim is subjective, since our state doesn’t actually hold any official awards for our snow. But anyone who skis our powder can’t disagree.

  1. Number of Children

Jim Mullhaupt/flickr Utah loves its kids, and we have plenty of them! We’re consistently the top in the nation for children per capita.

  1. Volunteerism

Volunteers of America Utah/Facebook The Corporation for National and Community Service has ranked Utah number one for volunteerism for 10 years in a row. We love to work together to help our communities!

  1. Best for Business

  1. Girl Scout Cookies

Brian/flickr According to the CEO of Girl Scouts of Utah, our state has the highest per-girl sales average in the nation. We love those thin mints and Samoas!

  1. Largest Festival of Colors

Thomas Hawk/flickr The largest Festival of Colors in the world happens each year at the Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork. It’s happening on March 26th and 27th—join in the fun!

  1. Residents Most Confident About State’s Economy

torbakhopper/flickr According to a recent Gallup poll, Utah’s residents are the most confident in the nation about their state’s economy. 75 percent of Utahns reported economic confidence; 83 percent stated that they think the state’s economy will continue to improve.

  1. Most Diverse Natural Beauty

Alan English CPA/Flickr While this claim may also be subjective, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find another state in the nation with such diverse beauty. In Utah, you can ski in the morning at Alta, and golf the same evening in St. George. You can hike and fish in an alpine forest, explore slot canyons and view red rock formations. Sure, other states might offer a few pretty places. But Utah surely must be number one when it comes to natural beauty.
