It seems that currently culture is absolutely OBSESSED with the undead. Why? Well, popular shows like “The Walking Dead,” books titled “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” plus feature films like “Warm Bodies” and “World War Z,” have simply pushed an entire generation over the grisly, green eyed edge. The blood and gore and fear of a viral takeover has our entire society wondering: what actually would happen if zombies took over the world? Or in our case, Tennessee?
We decided to scout out some great vantage spots for your survival.
Plus, did you know we even have our own zombie response unit? Tennessee is pretty solidly prepared.
- Mud Island - Memphis
Jimmy Smith / Flickr This small peninsula sticks out into the Mississippi River, giving survivors the opportunity to quarantine the healthy and keep a lookout for the undead. Also, since water is a natural odor blocker, they may not catch your scent over the water. It’s a proven fact that zombies aren’t swimmers, either - so that water? Gives you walls on three sides. Score.
- The Lost Sea - Sweetwater
Brent Moore / Flickr Well, The Lost Sea will depend on a couple of things: One. Do your zombies swim, or is water THE WORST on their pale and peeling skin? Two. Can they see in the dark? Not all zombies can, with their dead eyes all sensitive and everything (not). If you’re looking for an underground cavern with more water than you’ll ever need, this is it. Plus? It’ll be very easy to barricade yourselves in. Just make sure you can get out…
- East Nashville - Nashville
Jenny Nashvillians know it is absolutely impossible to get in and out of East Nashville on a good day - one without zombies. If you have a large group of survivors, you can block the bridges over the Cumberland and cordon yourselves on the east side. We’re sure the hipsters won’t be of help, but you can definitely line the outer banks with guards and keep yourselves save in the fairly safe block of land.
- Sunsphere - Knoxville
Brent Moore / Flickr Stuck in Knoxville? Better make it up the Sunsphere! You’ll be able to see for miles, and if you have solid guards that keep zombies from climbing their way heavenwards, you may be able to wait out the siege.
- Pyramid Building - Memphis
wcm1111 / Flickr This iconic building will serve you well if you’re unable to get out of Memphis. Obviously being in the city isn’t the best decision. But the Bass Pro Superstore inside will give you all the weapons you need for protection. Just make sure the zombies don’t make it inside…otherwise you may find your great store of weapons has become a deadly trap all its own.
- The ATT Building - Nashville
Prayltno / Flickr Making it out of downtown Nashville will be a nightmare in itself in the middle of an attack. The ATT building will provide lots of hiding space, easy lookout views and most likely a large supply of food from all the businessfolk that left in a hurry.
- The Secret City - Oak Ridge
Joel Kramer / Flickr It worked for World War II, and the Secret City may earn its keep once again if zombies invade our 21st century home. Tucked in the Oak Ridge hills, it’s hard to find this place even if you’re a human. With plenty of room and opportunity for expansion and storage, there’s quite the opportunity to build a place of safety out here in the woods.
- Point Park - Chattanooga
Charlene N Simmons / Flickr Getting up high in Chattanooga is what’s going to save your neck. From Point Park, you’ll be able to see for miles without worrying about a sneak attack. Of course, you’re going to have to make sure there’s a solid fleet of guards - otherwise you may meet an untimely death at the bottom of the cliff. Also, who knows? Maybe in a moment of desperation you’ll be able to get those cannons to work with you.
