A lot of towns may boast that they resemble a real life fairy tale, but not many can say that they inspired some of the greatest childhood stories of all time. If you visit Marceline, about 125 miles northeast of Kansas City, you’ll get to experience the hometown one of America’s greatest animation artists and innovators of all time.

However, the real magic can be found on the property where Disney grew up.
Walt’s Dream Tree & Barn/Facebook Walt drew much of the inspiration for his animated characters from farm life back home. Disney felt such a strong connection to the barn, that he had it a version of it built near his new home in California for him to write in.
Inside the barn, visitors leave their mark by signing their name or leaving a note to Walt.

City of Marceline/Facebook Disney was always fascinated with trains as a child and many of his early animations featured railroads. At Ripley Park, you’ll find an old locomotive that Walt personally went to see when he visited in the 1950s.
To see where all the Disney magic began, a visit to Marceline is a must.

Often Mark Twain’s childhood town of Hannibal is talked about, but rarely do we hear about Walt Disney’s hometown, Marceline. If you’re a fan of any of the Disney movies or like learning about local history, I definitely recommend taking a trip to this magical town.
